The Annual TALKBACK Series of Winter Talks

Rev Carolyn Brodribb at St Boniface (BROTALKQ.jpg)

Sunday 18th February 2007 at 1800 hrs in St Boniface Church. Each winter for several years the churches in Crediton have hosted a series of talks on a Christian and moral theme. The series is organised by Jack and Clare Shelley. This winter's theme is "Are we channels of His peace?", based upon the prayer of St Francis. Rev Carolyn Brodribb, Anglican minister at Dolton, gave a talk on "Where there is sadness, joy". Just over fifty people attended.

The death has occurred of Kenneth Carter, Sculptor (16.06.1928-24.02.2007). In his younger years he was a lecturer at Exeter College of Art. The family lived at Lympstone. In the late 1960s Fr George Hay commissioned him to design and make the bas relief of St Boniface felling the Oak at Geismar which forms the centre piece of the Shrine. He also made the statue of Our Lady holding the infant Jesus which is located at the west side of the Church. After completing the St Boniface work Exeter Cathedral commissioned him to make the Fifteen Testament Sculptures which are displayed in the Cathedral Chapter House. Obituaries can be found in the Western Morning News and the Express and Echo. He was one of the leading ecclesiastical sculptors in South West England. St Boniface Church is honoured in having an early link with such an eminent local artist. RIP.

Sunday 17th June 2007 the Bishop visited Crediton to celebrate Mass as part of the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Crediton associated with the feast of St Boniface (5th June). He made a visit to the many Boniface memorials in Crediton, followed by a cream tea back in the Church Meeting Room.

Saturday 1st September 2007 at 1600 the House Group BBQ in the garden of Janet and John. Over 40 parishioners attended and enjoyed superb food and refreshments.

Sunday 30th September 2007. Visit of a coach party of pilgrims from the Madgeburg area of the 'old' East Germany. They were accompanied by four of their own priests who concelebrated Mass at St Boniface.

Sunday 21st October 2007 the Bishop's Visitation. Bishop Christopher Budd spent the day in Crediton following celebration of Mass in the morning.

Sunday 21st October 2007 at 1800 hrs in St Boniface Church. As part of the Crediton ecumenical Talkback series, a presentation entitled 'Walking on Water' was given by Pam Murphy.

Sunday 4th November 2007 saw the publication of the 'consulation booklet' entitled Pastoral Re-Organisation in the Diocese of Plymouth - Principles, Strategy and Framework. This caused some alarm in the community as Crediton was listed as "Status of Topsham, Crediton and Budleigh Salterton to be clarified". As the birthplace of one of Northern Europe's foremost ancient saints it has long been considered that Crediton is not sufficiently acknowledged by The Curia. For many years the request for our own presbytery has been rejected and it is unclear as to the value of a very large bequest made by a Crediton Parishioner and currently held in the Diocese investments. As the site of Devon's first Cathedral in Saxon times it is extraordinary that Crediton is not historically and culturally acknowledged. Perhaps some enlightenment might ensue.

Saturday 8th December 2007. A parish liturgy day presented by David Wells and held in the Church Meeting Room. It was entitled Celebrating our Faith - Living Liturgy.

Sunday 23rd December 2007 at 11:00, Childrens Nativity Concert organised by parents and musicians. This was an excellent production and included two very successful organ recitals by children under seven. Many photographs available from parents and grandparents.
